Warning! The following contains spoilers for Sunrise!!
Silverstar posted another excellent theory yesterday--this time about Hollyleaf. It got me thinking why did Hollyleaf snap in the end? What possessed her to kill Ashfur and go insane? Hollyleaf's insanity seemed different from Bluestar's gradual decline. She seemed to be a perfectly good warrior, a little obsessed with the Warrior Code, but a good warrior never the less.
As an apprentice, Hollypaw was happy and showed no signs of her dark future. She had a slight dislike and suspicion of Ashfur, but nothing that may have possessed her to murder him. As she grew older though, Hollyleaf's dislike of Ashfur grew...
Eventually she became so dark that the black warrior even tried to kill her own mother, Leafpool, with death berries.
Silverstar thinks that Tigerstar and Hawkfrost may have been 'controlling' Hollyleaf from the Dark Forest. Remember how Tigerstar sent Lionblaze images of Heathertail's dead body? Perhaps Tigerstar sent Hollyleaf images of Squirrelflight, Jayfeather and Lionblaze's dead bodies. Perhaps Tigerstar told Hollyleaf that Firestar would exile them all. Perhaps that was the 'red haze' Hollyleaf spoke of.
Or maybe Hollyleaf's state of mind was darker then readers originally thought. Maybe she was a murder all along...
I don't think so though, she was too happy and innocent in her apprentice days.
So...why, Hollyleaf?

What are your theories?

Yes, it is really strange. I used to like her so much, and I was pretty surprised when she went evil on us. Once again, aren't theories fun? ;)

yeah i am having a REALLY hard time reading any other power of 3 book now. i loved hollyleaf. she seemed so much like me. obsessed with the rules, a fighter, always doing what's best, but then again I would NEVER murder someone.
I-I miss Hollyleaf already *sniffle*
I still love holly no matter what.
So sad that she died
check out "Hollyleaf's lullaby on youtube.
Oh, hollyleaf, i miss you, you were such a great warrior. i dont think she deserved to go down like that. i could totally see the black lifeless body under the mounds of rock and dirt. poor kit. she was so young. we love you hollyleaf! i hope to see you in starclan! *begins to cry allowed*
I think the reason Hollyleaf had to die was because she never really had powers like Lionblaze and Jayfeather.
I think that what what happened was harsh and not.. something that should have happened.
I was looking through youtube videos and someone posted this - "cuz the thought that her own existense was breaking the warrior code was too much for her to stand... and now she lives in her own cold cold world" So, maybe the fact that she's not fully mentally and emotionally stable made her go even more crazy. She wanted for thing to be good but it didn't happen. Whether or not she is dead, we shall find out.
I hate to be a party pooper, but I never was obsessed with hollyleaf. She always seemed too sinister and accusing. It's cool though that leafpool was their mother. I have always loved leafpool. Still, it was kind of dumb of hollyleaf to try to kill my 2nd fave warrior cat...
I cried when I read the death of Hollyleaf and sat vigil that night. I know that Starclan must've knocked some sense into her and she truely regrets her last words and how she died. It was obvious who their mother and father was though. I knew it after reading long shadows. I miss Holleyleaf and hope she likes it hunting with Starclan. Fortunatly I'm sure she will appear in later books in Starclan.
Also, when I first read about Hollyleaf's death, I was almost positive that she was washed away to the lake that saved her and her litter mates in earlier books. I thought she would appear in later books just when they needed her to complete the prophicy, then I read the preview for the next book and I know I'm wrong. But there was no body or proof. I just wished the scene could've happened in Hollyleaf's perspective so we could've known what was going on in her mind, but then we would've known if she realy lived and it would've gived alot away. All I know is that I can't wait for the new book to come out!
I honestly don't think Tigerstar/Hawkfrost had anything to do with the 'red haze' thing. I think there WAS some sort of power about Hollyleaf...to me she sort of represented the warrior code, I doubt that that has any impact on the book though.
SPOILER WARNING.
-Hollyleaf is not dead. Erin Hunter confirmed it.
Ok, I think that she was a happy little girl but then she saw how awesome her brothers powers were. I mean really! Deep faith in the warrior code? So she wanted to show her brothers what she could do. But still they were not impressed. And she wanted more POWER! so she really just went crazy then on out.
brilieant theory sorrelpaw, i love your blogs! anybody checked out 'omenof the stars spoilers' on youtube???? poor ashfur, yellowfang said herself love broken cannot be healed! Hollyleaf commited suicide at the end too! DO you think Ashfur was controlling her??? She still said it right, she went insane, and self-destructed, perfectly possible~!
GASPLES!!!!!! what did somethin' toadic.....? Hollyleaf is confirmed....ALIVE!!!!!!!!!! :O
Hollyleaf probably tried to kill Leafpool because she was in shock. And killing doesn't make you evil. Firestar killed scourge. And Firey isn't even CLOSE to evil. I feel sorry for Holly. Having your mom and aunt lie to you your entire life must hurt.
i remember hollyleaf never really showed signs of power. and i remember sol said are you sure you are th three? and it got m wondering. so when hollyleaf "died" i wasnt all that shocked beacuse thats how starclan wanted it to be.
i dont remember crying ither. she never really was my favorite.
also, i dont know about you guys, but i wish bramblecalw was still the father. lionblaz is wasy too much like brambleclaw and tigerstar to not be blood
Hollyleaf was better as an apprentice and then she got lets say not smart as a warrior.
(there are rumors that Hollyleaf is in the dark forest)
In an interview with the Erins, someone asked, 'Why'd you kill Hollyleaf?'
Victoria Holmes said, 'I killed Hollyleaf? Where'd it say that?'
I believe in the 'Holly' Theory where she is forever living with Fallen Leaves. It makes sense Fallen 'Leaves.' Holly'leaf.'

i think that holly is the warrior in OOTS book 5 forrgotten warrior as tthere was some refrance to her
i agree with sorrelpaw about tigerstar and the reason why is that
hollyleaf was realy close to firestar and tigerstar wanted to torture him even by making his grandkit insane like bluestar but worse
Personnally I think your slightly off track. Only a small bit though. I believe that Hollyleaf always liked the warrior code. Even when she killed Ashfur. I think she just had no idea what to believe anymore. Now being frightened might have very well done it. She may have gone paranoid and thought her clanmates would turn on her. So to hide the secret she killed Ashfur.
After that I think she felt guilty. So being a girl who follows the rules Hollyleaf put everyone down straight. Telling the secret may have been the only way for her. Yet her worst fear came to life. All the clans turned their back to her. Her clanmates barely trusted her.
Hollyleaf thought she knew she was right. But for truth she was sent deeper into paranoia. She ran back to camp and tried to kill her mother from madness.
I feel she was accualy trying to lure her brothers to talk to her in the forest. Maybe feeling that they too turned their backs on her by trying to call her back.
Hollyleaf tried to fight all this by running from the clans. But her route wasn't good. She had caused her own death in this case. I believe this started when she no longer believed that she belonged to a prophecy.
*Hope to see hollyleaf in Starclan!
